Anne Murphy school of Irish Dancing
Anne Murphy is one of the longest standing Irish dancers living in Germany. She moved to Munich in 1973 to work as a nurse and even in those days, twenty years before Riverdance hit the scenes, Anne was entertaining audiences at
folk festivals throughout Germany and Europe.
Anne was approached in 1989 by Father Healey of the newly created St. Killians Parish and some Irish mothers and asked if she could teach the Irish children Traditional Irish Dancing. The mothers joined in themselves a few
months later and at one of their first performances named themselves “The Emerald Dancers”. Over the years the group has grown to one of the largest troupes in Germany.
Anne’s dancing career began at the age of four at the Cowie-Ryan School of Irish Dancing (An Coimisiún) in Cove in County Cork. At the age of 12 she won the first World Irish Dancing Championships in her age group. After leaving
for Germany, Anne returned regularly to her school for workshops.
Anne gives classes for The Emerald Dancers on Thursdays and Fridays. You can obtain information from their web page: http://www.emerald-dancers.de.
More recently Anne has started to give regular VHS courses in the Munich area, as well as workshops in Munich, Kempten, Augsburg and Erding.
